Reverend Fr. Alan J. Fogarty, S.J.
Chief Executive Officer
After a lengthy search, and with a desire to expand further afield and increase our scope of collaboration, the Board of Directors of Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation (Salt + Light Media) is pleased to announce the appointment of Fr. Alan J. Fogarty, S.J., as Chief Executive Officer effective August 1, 2020.
Fr. Fogarty joins Salt + Light Media with degrees in philosophy, theology, leadership and administration. Rooted in his love for Jesus Christ and commitment through Ignatian spirituality to the mission of the Society of Jesus and the Church, he embodies a broad range of experience resulting in a strong background in organizational and visionary leadership as well as a proven record in global networking and fundraising.
Since ordination to the priesthood in 1998, Fr. Fogarty has held various senior leadership positions in Canada and the United States. On December 31, 2019, he concluded six years of service to the Jesuit Superior General in Rome as President of the Gregorian University Foundation, New York and Washington, DC, and President of Gregoriana Inc., Toronto.
“I feel humbled to be invited to serve as Salt + Light’s CEO, yet I am also grateful to the Society of Jesus for availing me of this great apostolic work,” said Fr. Fogarty. “With expansion on the horizon, I am very much looking forward to engaging expert advice from those I have worked with over the years from all parts of the globe, involving them as part of a wider network that brings Salt + Light into its next phase of development and service.”
The Board of Directors also wishes to express its deep gratitude to Alexander Du who has tirelessly and most generously assumed the additional responsibilities of interim CEO since June of 2019. His leadership and commitment during a time of change and transition was vital to the continued success of our mission. Alexander will remain acting as interim CEO until Fr. Fogarty joins us on August 1st. Alex will resume his previous role as Chief Operating Officer under Fr. Fogarty’s leadership.
Chair, Tony Gagliano, along with members of the Board of Directors of Salt + Light Media, also wish to extend its thanks to Very Reverend Erik Oland, Provincial of the Jesuit Province of Canada, for making Fr. Fogarty available to serve as Salt + Light Media’s next Chief Executive Officer.
